Spider-Man Comic Appearances for June 27, 2012

This week is a bit more tame on the variant cover front with 4 alternate covers available.  10 new comics featuring a Spider-Man appearance.

Right in line with the new Amazing Spider-Man movie release, we have the Lizard front and center in the monthly title.  And we also have the 2nd issue of the very fun Spider-Men series.  Otherwise, a fairly pedestrian medium-sized week.

Here's the full list of appearances:

Spider-Men #1 - The Full Comic Shop Variant List

Spider-Man #1 has come and gone, and it's a pretty good story so far.  More importanly, the issues brings along with it a slew of comic shop retailer variant covers.  Marvel invited comic shop retailers to purchase a minimum of 500 copies to get their own personalized cover to the issue.

This issues joins the ranks of Amazing Spider-Man #666, Amazing Spider-Man #669, Avengers X-Sanction #1, and Avengers Assemble #1 to offer an exclusive retailer variant.  The number of participating stores has dropped for each issue, however even the minimum 12,000 additional issues sold for Spider-Men #1 will probably means it's a modest success for Marvel and may foretell more to come.

The following 24 stores decided to take them up on the offer:

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for June 20, 2012

This week the Spider-Man-themed company-wide variant covers continue to roll through your bank account.

There are 13 (?) new Spider-Man comic book appearances this week, and 6 of those are variant covers, while 3 others are alternate printing variants.

Now I say 13 with a question mark because the jury is out as to whether or not Spidey appears in the latest big-news issue of Astonishing X-Men #51.  Towards the end of the book during the wedding reception, it surely looks like Spidey's hand reaches into frame to tap the shoulder of one of the mutant wedding attendees.  Now Spidey isn't shown anywhere else in the book, and their aren't many non-mutants attending the wedding at all so it doesn't seem likely he would be there.  But heck, this is a comic book.  Who said there has to be rhyme or reason to anything.  I'm just working on identifying if there is another character who would be attending and have a similar glove style (e.g. red with circular lines along the fingers).

Oh well, I'll update this post with the final findings.  Here's are the other books for the week:

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for June 13, 2012

This week we have 18 new Spider-Man comic book appearances, and 12 of those are variant covers.

The highly promoted first meeting of the 616 Marvel Universe Spidey (Peter Parker) and the Ultimate Universe Spidey (Miles Morales) occurred in Spider-Men #1.  In addition to its regular cover and 2 variants, there is a 3rd variant cover that was made available to retailers who wanted to purchase 500 copies to get a personalized cover.

This time around 24 comic shops took Marvel up on the offer.  Most are in the US, but a couple are in Canada and one in both England and Italy.

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for June 6, 2012

Late again for last week.  We had 9 new comic book appearances, and 7 of those are company-wide Spidey-themed cover variants.  ugh.  Of the remain 3 books, one was a freebie.

Here's the list:
  • Age of Apocalypse #4 (Spider-Man In Motion Variant)
  • Amazing Spider-Man The Movie #1
  • Avengers Academy #31 (Spider-Man In Motion Variant)
  • Dark Avengers #175 (Spider-Man In Motion Variant)
  • Journey Into Mystery #639 (Spider-Man In Motion Variant)
  • Summer of Spider-Man Sabretooth Reborn Preview Book
  • Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #11
  • Winter Soldier #6 (Spider-Man In Motion Variant)
  • X-Factor #237 (Spider-Man In Motion Variant)

Next week we'll have an implosion of new Spidey appearances.  Not the least of which will be Spider-Man #1 and its many incentive variant covers that include a comic shop retailer variant.  There will probably be a couple dozen of those floating around out there.

Be sure to set your wallets to standby.

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for May 30, 2012

So life gets back to normal this week, but June promises to bring more convention awesomeness.  After hitting conventions in both Dallas and Houston in May, I will be taking a turn in San Antonio at the Texas Comic Con in late June.

But before that happens, I'll be making a pilgrimage to Mile High Comics to visit their new warehouse store - quite possibly the largest comic shop anywhere ever!  And the trip to Denver will coincide with the inaugural Denver Comic Con event.  It should be a lot of fun.

I use the term pilgrimage purposefully, because I was wavering on whether or not to make the trip.  I was concerned that after paying for airfare, a hotel room, renting a car, plus expenses, what if I couldn't find enough books off my want list to make it worthwhile.

It was earlier this week when I needed to make the final decision to go, and that morning I received an email from a reporter with CNN requesting an interview about Spider-Man's 50th anniversary and how the character has affected me.  The questions took me back to the days when I started collecting Spider-Man comics, and rekindled memories about the first time I purchased comics through mail order from Mile High Comics.  The 10-year-old me had so much fun scouring the catalog to pick out what I wanted to get with my allowance.

Remembering how I felt those many years ago cinched the trip for me.  It's an experience and a chance to reconnect with my inner child.

This week on the comic front is alternate printing week.  Among the 14 new books released, 10 were 2nd or 3rd printings of recent Marvel comics.  That along with 3 regular appearances and Marvel Previews, and we have another variant-free week.  Yahoo!

Among the new releases, the Amazing Spider-Man Annual #39 was a lot more fun than expected.  It was your basic time travel and pocket universe issue with a lot of heart.

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for May 23, 2012

This week I made my way to Houston, Texas for Comicpalooza.  This event takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in the downtown area.

Just like Dallas, the event has grown from year to year.  However, the facility has also been able to accommodate the growing crowds.  Great planning and an even better support system of volunteers has ensured this event goes off without a hitch.

Friday was a little slow, but also made it easy to do some serious boxdiving throughout the room.  Saturday had a long line of folks waiting to get in and have a lot of fun.

I will definitely be hitting this show next year.

Here's what came out this week:

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for May 16, 2012

I'm playing catch-up with the past few week's new Spider-Man comic book appearances.  My time has been filled travelling all over Texas visiting some Summer comic cons and local comic shops.

This week I hit the Dallas Comic Con.  The show has grown steadily year to year and recently moved to a much larger facility at the Irving Convention Center.  The only problem is it just wasn't big enough for the crowds.  I think Avengers fever brought new participants out of the woodwork.

From the moment I arrived, it was lines lines and more lines just waiting to get in with an advance ticket.  Once inside it was a madhouse of people walking the dealer room, which I hope was good for the dealers.

And you could forget about getting something to eat.  There was a steady line 30 minutes deep all day.

I've been attending the Dallas show regularly for the last several years, but the return on investment is lower and lower, and the crowds this year just may keep me away in 2013.

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for May 9, 2012

It's been a while since I could say it with a straight face, but there are no variant comics released this week with a Spidey appearance.  Woo hoo!  My wallet has been spared a terrible fate.

There are, however, 8 awesome non-varianty comics with a Spider-Man appearance.

The most fun appearance this week is Fanboys Vs. Zombies #2.  The regular cover B has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of a zombified Spidey attacking the comic's protagonists on the cover.  If you missed it, he's in the bottom right-hand corner of the cover.

Here are all of the appearance for this week:

Spider-Man Comic Appearances for May 2, 2012

There are 13 new comic books featuring a Spider-Man appearance this week, and a bunch of them are variant covers for AvX #3.

A new magazine called Marvel Super Heroes is released.  It's primarily an Avengers-based magazine, but Spidey is included.

Interestingly, the new magazine made it out to newsstand racks a week ago.  Marvel didn't bother to print a unique Direct Edition, but rather distributed the Newsstand Edition to comic shops as well.

Here's the list:
